BYD Unveils Third-Generation Atto 3 with 630 km Range and 9-Minute Flash Charging

BYD has revealed the third-generation BYD Atto 3 at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, introducing a comprehensive update to its global electric crossover.

Known in China as the BYD Yuan Plus, the latest Atto 3 brings increased performance, extended range, and significant advancements in charging and driver assistance technologies.

The redesigned Atto 3 adopts BYD’s latest Dragon Face design language, featuring sharper headlamp signatures, a chrome accent bridging the front fascia, and semi-hidden door handles.

Dimensionally, it has grown to 4665 mm in length, 1895 mm in width, and 1675 mm in height, with a wheelbase extended to 2770 mm—improving cabin space and road presence over its predecessor. Buyers will have a choice between 18-inch and 19-inch wheel options.

Inside, the cabin sees a noticeable evolution toward a more integrated and refined layout. A large floating infotainment display remains central, complemented by an embedded digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, and a two-spoke steering wheel with a column-mounted gear selector.

The center console houses dual wireless charging pads, while comfort and convenience are enhanced with a 16-speaker audio system, a built-in refrigerator with heating capability, and a powered tailgate.

Practicality has also improved. Boot capacity increases to 750 litres, while the front trunk (frunk) expands significantly—reported between 101 and up to 180 litres depending on configuration. The bonnet now features electronic operation, replacing the manual mechanism.

In terms of powertain, the new Atto 3 shifts to a rear-wheel-drive layout across variants. The base model pairs a 57.5 kWh LFP battery with a 200 kW motor, delivering a claimed 540 km range (CLTC). A higher-spec version uses a 68.5 kWh battery and a more powerful 240 kW motor, extending range to 630 km under the same test cycle.

The biggest highlight of the new Atto 3 is BYD’s new flash charging technology, capable of replenishing the battery from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes when connected to ultra-high-power chargers.

This positions the Atto 3 among the fastest-charging EVs currently announced, although real-world deployment of such charging infrastructure remains a limiting factor outside China.

The model also debuts the DiPilot 300 assisted driving system, integrating LiDAR-based sensing for enhanced driver assistance capabilities, alongside a continuous damping system aimed at improving ride quality.

While the new Atto 3 is set to launch first in China, global availability timelines remain unclear.
